Day 1

We met at singapore's changi airport at 5.30am today. I didn't really slept the night before as i am supposed to be up by 4.30 in order to reach the airport on time. Everyone was on time and so we checked in early after we have taken our group photo at changi airport terminal 1. Many parents and lecturers snapped away as we posed and lots of passerby also stared at us thinking what is the commotion about. Many of our parents waited for us to clear the imigrants before leaving and i can't bear to leave my comfort zone and go to an unfamiliar surrounding. Took a flight to guangzhou airport for a transfer flight to wuhan as there is no direct flight to wuhan and we used a total of 12hours, almost half a day's time, to get to wuhan. Once we touched down, the students from wuhan welcomed us and fetched us from the airport to their campus. We got keys from Miss Neo and checked into our dorms respectively. After some light unpacking, we went to meet the china students who took us to have dinner and brought us to a nearby supermarket to get our daily neccessities. We were rushing as we have only limited time to get all our stuff before the supermarket closes for the day. We proceed to Macdonalds to grab a bite after getting all our stuff needed. The meal cost us only RMB$20.70, a far cry from the meal i had at guangzhou airport which set me back by RMB$95 for a simple meal which consists of a cheese pizza and a glass of mango juice.

Personal Reflection:

Basically, for day 1, i learned how to leave my comfort zone and be independent as i use to be very reliant to my parents who does the household chores. At wuhan, we have to clean up the room and the washroom ourselves. It teaches us to be dependent individuals. I also learnt to take initiative to interact with the china students and not wait for them to start a conversation with us. The china students were also very friendly and welcoming. It made me reflect on ourselves and that we should welcome chinese nationals to singapore like they welcomed us to their country. We also shouldn't view them in a different light and accept them in our community.
